Mains Drainage & Sewerage System

Imagine your lawn covered by an outflow of sewage!

Can you?

When the mains drainage pipe gets blocked the only way is up – through the inspection manhole.

What is the cause?

The mains drains, installed some 3 years ago throughout the parish, are able only to deal with the 3 Ps – Pee, Poo and Paper.

80% of sewer blockages are avoidable. For decades, the nation has been putting food scraps, fat, oil and grease down the sink. And wipes, period care products, cotton buds, nappies and much more down the loo.

These items quickly mix with other debris to create a blockage known as a FATBERG.

This can lead to sewer flooding, and also leads to pollution of the environment.

The sewage disposal pipe is 6 inches [ 150mm ] in diameter, so can be put under pressure by a short period of very heavy rain, and a build-up of the fatberg type.

Inappropriate materials put down our sinks and toilets is the cause of this FATBERG problem!

Please be careful when disposing of these materials; so as not to cause sewage outflows on your neighbour’s lawn, or pollution of our water supplies.

How has Anglian Water helped to combat FATBERG problems?

All of our system stations are fitted with an auto reset feature. This means that in the event of a power failure that the sites will automatically reset the system to get the stations up and running again.

Each station is fitted with a flashing beacon. If one pump fails, the second pump should continue to keep the level under control. Anglian Water will respond to the one failed pump via a telemetry alarm. The beacon will flash rather than just illuminate.

Each station is fitted with a telemetry system to talk back to Anglian Water HQ, however if the beacon is activated then a member of the public can call 03457145145
